According to reports, Jay Leno earns a total of 15 million dollars for his appearances as host on the Tonight Show, but where his real income stems from is his stand up comedy tours, which net him an average of 20 million dollars annually. The actor, and comedian, owns a total of 200 cars in his car collection which are valued to be worth 50 million dollars.

Personal life

Born in 1950, to parents Catherine and Angelo, of Scottish and Italian descent respectively, Jay studied Speech therapy at the Emerson College in Massachusetts where he also founded a comedy club in 1973. He had a brother named Patrick Leno, who was an alumnus of the Yale Law School and died in 2002 due to cancer. Married to Mavis Leno since 1980, the dyslexic stand up comic and TV show host has no children. This is as a result of a mutual consent agreement between him and his wife when they married.

Jay Leno does not drink or smoke, and spends his time in his garage which is very extensive, with his cars or visiting car collections around the country. Leno has a prominent jaw line which has been described as due to a condition known as mandibular prognathism, and though it can be corrected easily by surgery, Leno has refused to do so, claiming that this would make him unable to speak for a few days at least, a situation he is unwilling to even contemplate.

The TV personality also claims that he does not survive on his earnings from the TV show, and that they are simply transferred to his account, but rather his stand up comedy routines. Some of his other sources of income include his voice acting. Jay Leno has voiced the character of The crimson Chin in Nickelodeon’s The Fairly Odd Parents series since 2001.

Some of his collectibles include the 1932 Packard Twin Six 12 cylinder coupe, 1929 Bentley, a Bugatti, a 1937 Fiat Topolino, a Blastolene special, a 1955 Buick Roadmaster, a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado, 2007 Ariel Atom and a steam car (the 1909 Stanley steamer).

Jay Leno has also contributed greatly to the Lance Armstrong foundation for people with cancer, the Starkey Hearing Foundation for people with hearing disabilities and he has been associated with multiple donations to the St. Jude Children’s hospital. He also donated 100,000 dollars to the Feminist’s Majority campaign to stop the spread of gender apartheid in the Middle Eastern country of Afghanistan.

In 2009, Jay donated 100,000 dollars to the Salem State College in honor of Lennie Sogol off who according to the talk show personality gave him his first big break at the jazz club owned by Lennie called Lennie’s-on-the-Turnpike. Though he positively adores his cars, Jay in 2012 auctioned his Fiat 500 for $385,000 with all proceeds going to a charity for war veterans.
