There were many great drivers in the history of the sport, but Jeff Gordon holds the special place among his colleagues and fans worldwide. However, every great story has its ending, and Gordon decided that it was time to retire. This could not have been an easy decision for the four time champion. Jeff Gordon started racing at just 18 years of age, earning just $400 in his first year. Two seasons later, he finished 4th in ranking, earning $400,000. For three years in a row, Gordon was able to have double-digit wins in a season, spanning from 1996 to 1998, and was considered a top driver in that time period.
In the year 2008, Gordon was close to retiring, after injuring his back, which caused him problems all year, as he was not able to win any races. However, determined more than ever, he said he will retire after winning his fifth championship, and it happened in 2014. He will end up as one of the most prolific drivers, winning championships in 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2001, and gathering 92 Sprint Cup wins. Jeff is one the rare drivers to finish in the top ten 445 times. Only two drivers in the history of NASCAR have more wins than Jeff, names such as Richard Petty and David Pearson. A Hall of Fame worthy career, for sure.
