Second of five children, all boys, he graduated from the Springfield College, Springfield, Massachusetts in 1998 with a degree in Exercise Physiology.

While in college he played All-American football wearing the jersey number 54 which has since then been associated with his trademark on the WWE merchandise. The wrestling pro writes left-handed, loves video games, Japanese anime and is a fan of the Red Sox, Celtics and EPL team Tottenham Hotspur.
